Decide ahead of time whether
the portrait background will be light or dark, and dress accordingly. Light clothing
works best with light backgrounds.
Keep Outfits Simple
To make sure you stand out
more than the clothes, try outfits with solid colors. Bright patterns can detract
from the most important parts of the portrait ~ your face and expression.
Broad stripes and bold
patterns tend to place emphasis on clothing and not on you.
Very bright colors really
stand out and will sometimes lighten or darken flesh tones.
Long sleeves recommended:
Men - with or without
jackets
Women - 3/4 length or long
sleeve
White clothing will add
weight, while darker shades will tend to slim you down.
For Groups:
Harmony is the key.
Select fabrics, shades and styles for each individual so they will blend together.
That way everyone looks good!
Bring A Favorite Prop/Toy
I encourage you to bring in
your own props to personalize your portraits. Be sure to discuss prop selection with
photographer before your session.
Postpone the Haircut
Plan haircuts 1 - 2 weeks
prior to your portrait session. The day of the session is not the time to experiment
with a new hairstyle or stylist.
Be As Natural As You Can Be
Try to wear comfortable
clothes. Don't go over-board on make-up. Relax and act natural!
